The citizenry is on the move, and moving forward

Today, 15 days after the catastrophe, all Valencian citizens are still affected and bewildered by the effects of the DANA. A situation that has not been measured until now, when all the losses can be seen. Loss of human lives, the most serious, and material losses that will cause many families to have to start from scratch. But amidst the chaos, citizens are moving forward.

In the midst of all the confusion, chaos, difficulties and fears, a sprout of hope has made its way. And this has been the great social mobilization, which from solidarity, empathy and altruism have done their part to accompany those who have lost everything. It is impressive how so many people have set out to be part of a reconstruction that starts from scratch. And there have also been many initiatives that have emerged from self-managed and organized groups, humanitarian social organizations, or movements that want to be part of this slow process of returning to normality.

Citizen initiatives, the citizenry is on the move

From Qomer we value all the efforts and initiatives that add up. And we want to share one of them, which unites the efforts of many entities linked to the agri-food sector.

This is the "Cultivate Solidarity" campaign, an invitation to join efforts and support in favor of producers. The effects of the Dana have also affected productive fields, machinery and crops have been lost. This makes stable income difficult for a large number of families dedicated to agriculture. In addition, in the first days and weeks of the emergency, ensuring the right to food is one of the priorities for the affected population. Therefore, it is very important to ensure access to fresh and local products.

Let's not forget that many farmers have put their tractors at the service of the emergency tasks. In this way, they have also done their part to help in these first debris removal tasks.

"Let's cultivate solidarity"

In view of this need to support the agricultural sector, entities such as CERAI, Per l'Horta, CCPV-COAG, Mundubat, Justicia Alimentaria, Fundació Assut and SEAE, have joined. It is a fundraising campaign to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables from unaffected crops, to prevent food waste. And also to cover costs of lost crops, repair of machinery and reconstruction of warehouses among others. A campaign that especially supports family farming, which is the basis of the local agri-food system. For more details visit their WEBSITE.

In emergency situations any collaboration is good, be it dedicating time, using your hands and contributing economically. But definitely, being more, the pain and sorrow of a catastrophe that we will always remember, will be lighter for everyone.

From Qomer we join in the condolences given to those who have lost family and friends in the Dana.
