SIAL Paris trade fair, the keys to today's agri-food industry

The SIAL Paris Fair closed its 30th edition on October 23rd after 5 days of exhibition of trends and innovations in agri-food worldwide. The Fair, which took place at the Parc d'Exposition, Paris Nord Villepinte, is a biannual convocation of the protagonists of the agri-food sector with representation from Europe, North America, South America, Middle East and Asia.

It is an essential and emblematic event for the food sector, attended by companies such as Qomer every year. This year, SIAL Paris celebrates 60 years as a center of inspiration for the sector. It is a key space where to exchange, inspire and share experiences and generate networks. It is also a place where challenges, problems and new market solutions are visualized.

Agri-food news shared at the SIAL Paris trade fair

Among the topics discussed as essential, within the framework of the SIAL Paris 2024 Fair, the following can be mentioned:

  • Generate new, more sustainable and resilient visions: there is a growing demand for transparency, traceability information and food safety in the sector.
  • The need to reinvent the supply chain: taking advantage of all the resources available to the sector and its companies. We must raise awareness of how global conflicts and climate issues affect supply chains. Identifying new ways of doing things (chains, production systems) will be the key to progressively building new models that work.
  • The need to promote intersectoriality in the sector: also promoting the involvement of the public sector (states) in supporting advances and innovation in agri-food. The SIAL Fair had many stands from countries that support and promote the visibility of their companies and consortiums.
  • The need to strengthen the role of facilitators in supply chains. The agrifood market does not only involve those who produce and those who buy or transform raw materials into final products. There is also an important role for those who facilitate these processes to ensure a complete supply chain.

What does a supply chain facilitator do?

A supply chain facilitator supports the work to be done between producer organizations and the agri-food industry. Its mediating role can be summarized in the following five key functions:

Connecting supply and demand

The facilitator matches the needs of the downstream sector with the capabilities of the upstream sector. Identifies potential opportunities and promotes commercial agreements, fostering mutually beneficial relationships.

2. Contribution of product and process know-how.

The facilitator provides technical support to producers and companies to enable them to meet the quality and safety requirements of the processing sector. This includes training in sustainable practices, regulatory compliance and adoption of new technologies.

3. Optimization of logistics and coordination

It is responsible for coordinating and optimizing the entire supply chain, according to market dynamics. In this case, it supports from the collection to the final delivery of products, minimizing time and logistics costs. This includes managing transportation, storage and traceability of products to ensure efficiency and avoid waste.

4. Promoting sustainability and innovation

Promotes the adoption of sustainable practices that improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. In addition, it facilitates the implementation of business models based on the Circular Economy as well as obtaining quality certifications.

5. Relationship management and conflict resolution

The facilitator acts as a mediator between producers and companies, ensuring a fluid dialogue and resolving possible conflicts related to prices, contracts or deliveries. In this way, he promotes interdependence, collaboration and mutual adaptation in order to maintain balanced and productive relationships.
